Welcome!
Hi, I'm Pit! I’m 26 years old and originally from the beautiful country of Luxembourg. I grew up in a small village called Stadtbredimus, which lies on the banks of the river Moselle. On this page, I'd love to share a bit about myself and my filmmaking and videography journey.
1998-2017
I spent the first 19 years of my life in Luxembourg, where I graduated from high school in the summer of 2017. That final year of school surely was a challenge: juggling the stress of studying with playing basketball nearly every day left me with little free time. Earning my diploma was a huge relief and felt like the reward for all that hard work.
That summer, I bought my first camera—a small action camera—and I took it with me on trips to Paris and Lisbon. I've always loved how pictures can freeze a moment in time, but there's something about videos that captures the energy and emotions of a moment even more vividly. That's what initially drew me to the world of videography.
What I didn't realize at the time was how challenging filming and editing videos could be. I quickly learned that becoming the next Sam Kolder wasn't going to happen so easily after all! Mastering video creation takes time, dedication, and patience—but I was excited to dive deeper into the process and embrace the learning curve.
2017-2021
In October 2017, I moved to the beautiful town of Heidelberg in southwest Germany to begin my Bachelor's studies. My time there was unforgettable—I made lifelong friends, created lasting memories, and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Biological Sciences in late 2020.
Natural sciences, especially biology, have always fascinated me. I find it amazing how all the small things work together to make whole organisms or ecosystems function as a grand scale.
During my studies, I spent seven months abroad in Guelph, a charming town near Toronto, Canada. My exchange in Ontario was one of the biggest adventures of my life. I brought my camera everywhere—hockey games, weekend trips, and university events—but life was so busy that I never found time to edit all the footage.
When COVID-19 hit the world in early 2020, everything came to a standstill. With the world seemingly on pause, I realized it was the perfect moment to dive into all the videos I had captured in Canada. I ended up making several smaller videos, and topped it off with a highlight video showcasing the best moment from my exchange. It was the first video I uploaded to my YouTube channel, and the positive feedback I received was encouraging.
After my graduation in Heidelberg, I had a few months before starting my Master’s program. During that time, I upgraded to my first proper mirrorless camera. After some initial struggles about things like manual exposure, focus peaking and color profiles, I slowly got the hang of all the settings, and taught myself how to create beautiful timelapses and hyperlapses as well.
In August 2021, I left Heidelberg and moved to Utrecht for my Master’s studies in Sustainable Development. In a world where climate change and global warming dominate global headlines, I saw myself contributing to a good cause.
Later that year, I got in touch with Erasmus Student Network (ESN) Utrecht, an international student association dedicated to fostering connections between international students and the local community through various events. I joined the Promotion Committee, where I had the chance to participate in many trips and activities while creating short aftermovies to capture the highlights.
I enjoyed the ESN community so much that I decided to take on a larger role by joining the Executive Board for the academic year 2022-2023. The Board comprises six students that work full-time to manage and overview ESN Utrecht. As the Communication Manager, I was in charge of ESN Utrecht's social media channels, marketing campaigns, online and offline promotion, and coordinating merchandise orders.
It was a crazy year filled with many exciting events, memorable trips, and countless opportunities for personal and professional growth. One of the highlights was the Erasmus Generation Meeting in Bucharest, where over 900 ESNers from all over Europe gathered for four days of workshops, panel discussions and an engaging social program. I had the opportunity to be part of the Media Team and made the official aftermovie of the event, which was an amazing opportunity for me.
After my Board year ended, I returned to university for the second year of my Master’s program. I took courses in science communication that taught me how to convey complex scientific information to diverse target audiences using different audiovisual tools. This field sparked my interest as it combines my interest for science and sustainability with my passion for video editing and graphic design.
Last semester, I completed my Master’s thesis on modelling light interception profiles in the Amazon rainforest (sounds very complex—and it is indeed very complex, so I won’t go into any details here). Alongside my thesis, I took on several videography projects: I made videos for the university, captured a beautiful wedding in Germany, and worked on some other exciting assignments.
Now, I've officially completed my studies, and a new chapter begins. What's next? Before making any career choices, I went on a two-month solo trip to the East Coast of Australia—one of the most amazing experiences! I brought my camera everywhere and captured some of the most beautiful moments of my life.
On a broader note, I've decided to fully embrace my passion and pursue a career as a full-time freelance videographer. It's a thrilling and somewhat daunting step, but I'm excited to see where this journey takes me.
Cheers,
Pit
